Bollinger Scores In James Suckling

Bollinger R.D. 2007, 98points
64th on James Suckling’s Top 100 Wines from France 2021 which has just been released.

He scored the Champagne a fantastic 98 points commenting, “What an amazing nose this has, like the smell of a rock pool on a rocky coast, but with so many candied fruit, spicy and mushroom notes behind that. That fruit is way more expressive on the powerful and structured palate with a lime freshness and chalky minerality at the super-long bone-dry finish.”

More Bollinger scores were also posted on James Suckling’s website as part of a Champagne tasting feature.

Bollinger Champagne PN VZ16 Brut, 96 points
“Very deep and youthful nose with a cornucopia of candied citrus and red berries, as well as a touch of herb. Stunning depth of chalky character and fantastic mineral freshness make this really stand out. Dramatic, yet so elegant at the very long finish.”

Bollinger Champagne B13 Brut 2013, 95 points
“For an 8-year-old champagne this is extremely vibrant, the red-fruit character from the pinot noir grape rather in the background. Quite a strict style with discreet lees creaminess. However the ripeness and power means that it isn’t austere. Feels bone-dry at the powerful, chalky finish.”

Bollinger Champagne La Grande Annee Brut 2012, 95 points
“This makes a bold statement. Ripe, powerful and creamy with concentrated red-berry, nectarine, grapefruit and cashew aromas. I love the juiciness and brightness of this wine, which has such a long, graceful finish. Only 65% pinot noir, but it tastes like a lot more.”

Bollinger Champagne Special Cuvee Brut, 93 points
“Lots of biscuit aromas and a wide spectrum of fresh-citrus, candied-citrus, red-apple and red-berry notes. Mouth-filling creaminess, plus quite an imposing presence and powerful structure for an NV Brut. Long, citrus and chalky finish that’s very clean and properly dry.”

Bollinger Champagne Brut Rose, 93 points
“Deep red-berry nose, plus some nectarine, spice and candied-orange notes. Powerful and fresh, the hint of tannin from the red-wine component of the blend neatly balanced by the creaminess. Excellent textural complexity, then a long, delicately spicy and mineral finish.”

Bollinger Coteaux Champenois Ay Rouge La Cote Aux Enfants 2016, 93 points
“Complex nose of red fruit with an autumnal touch of underbrush, plus a spicy element that expands and expands as the wine aerates. An impressively ripe pinot noir for this northerly location, thanks to the startling tannin structure that gives this a lot of power at the fresh finish.”
