Snapshot Of Klein Constantia Wine Harvest 2022

The winter of 2021 gave Klein Constantia great promise for a good harvest season in 2022. Towards the end of spring, the cool conditions and regular rainfall kept the bud growth slow but steady. The protracted winter & cool summer provided gentle ripening conditions for the vines and saw the team hunting high and low for blocks to harvest to no avail.

The earliest block to be harvested was the Chardonnay for the Cap Classique at the end of January. Sauvignon Blanc was ready for harvest towards the beginning of February. Once harvest began, the blocks systematically fell into place keeping the team moving from block to block with little rest between.

The Muscat de Frontignan patiently ripened, the bunches were completely exposed to the sun in February to ensure the development of raisins whilst avoiding sunburn.

There are 69 vineyard blocks, with the team managing to harvest each block at the ideal moment. Overall a successful harvest that saw a total of 324 tons of grapes brought in over 34 days. And now they begin on work for harvest 2023, Cheers!
