Its delicate old gold colour is a sign of the maturity of the wine and of Bollinger’s wine making methods. Intense nose with smoke, toasty aromas. Candied citrus peel, hazelnut, almond and soft spices vanilla, cinnamon. A silky texture proof of the lengthy ageing on lees and an ideal balance between body, length and freshness.

2004 was quite a delicate year in Champagne, with a relatively dry winter and spring but a cold, wet end to the summer. The grapes were picked during a fine Indian summer which meant they were in an excellent state of health.

All the conditions were favourable to give their grapes the special qualities necessary for the very best vintages. La Grande Annee 2004 is made from 100% Grand Cru and Premier Cru wines. It is then vinified in small oak barrels to adsd depth and complexity.Producer Notes:66% Pinot Noir, 34% Chardonnay

a Grande Annee is Bollinger’s Prestige Cuvee and is only produced when exceptional vintages occur. 16 crus have been used in the blend of La Grande Annee 2004, including 88% Grands crus, 12% Premiers crus. Bollinger use only the ‘cuvee’ juice in the making of La Grande Annee. The first fermentation is always carried out 100% in small aged oak barrels to avoid generating the taste of oak or tannins, and to ensure the wines fully express their aromatic complexity and aging potential. Wines of exceptional quality are therefore needed from the outset: grapes used in making La Grande Annee vintages come from 100% Grands and Premiers Crus. After bottling, the second fermentation and cellar ageing are conducted under natural cork in order to protect them as much as possible from oxidation and preserve their freshness, as well as the bouquet and clarity of their aromas.
