2016 harvest was characterised by its delayed progression, compared to the last 10 years. This delay was mainly due to low temperatures in spring. With a very dry start to winter, late winter and spring followed with much needed rainfall, allowing for good vegetative growth of the vineyards before flowering. Berries were small due to the lack of rainfall during the summer. Climatic conditions during the last stage of ripening produced grapes of extraordinary health, with an optimum balance between the technical and phenolic ripeness.

The Rioja Blanco is fermented at 14-18�C in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, to preserve aromas and retain freshness, No malolactic fermentation is allowed to take place and the wine is bottled without ageing.

Pale yellow in colour, the wine is dry and fresh on the palate with aromas of peaches, apples, citrus, tropical fruits and a little banana. The finish is fresh and fruity with hints of melon. A zingy and refreshing wine.

El Coto was founded in 1970 in Rioja Alavesa and has grown from modest beginnings into one of the best known Rioja producers.

Today El Coto has over 700 hectares of vineyard in production across the three Rioja DOCa sub-zones of Rioja Alta, Rioja Baja and Rioja Alavesa. They also source grapes from all three areas, but mostly from Rioja Alavesa. Their stand-out reds hail primarily from their original estate at Cenicero in the heart of Rioja Alta.

They have invested in a new property, Carbonera, to improve the quality of their white wines. Located at 700 metres above sea level, this new estate is ideal for the new white grape varieties recently authorised by the Rioja Wine Board. Their unoaked, fresh and zingy white wine is already delicious, but we�re expecting to see it improve over the next few years as their 200 hectares of vineyards at Carbonera come into production.�

Head winemaker Cesar Fernandez oversees production, starting with hand-picking into 350 kg crates to ensure the grapes arrive at the winery in pristine condition.

Modern and intelligently designed, the emphasis in the winery is on temperature control and gentle handling of the grapes.
