Limited edition wonderful miniature Port Gift set, presented in a wooden box. Contains 1 x 5cl of each of the following:

1 x Tawny 5cl

Tawny-red colour fading to brick on the rim.  The seductive nose displays aromas of apricot and plum with mellow undertones of butterscotch and spice.  On the palate, the rich jammy flavours are lifted on the finish by an attractive crisp acidity. Fonseca aged tawnies are bottled for immediate drinking. Tawny Port makes a delicious dessert wine, and combines particularly well with flavours of almonds, berry fruit or dark chocolate.

1 x Ruby 5cl

Deep ruby colour.  Fresh, vigorous and youthful nose, full of intense cherry and blackcurrant aromas. Full bodied on the palate, with solid but well integrated tannins, and a long rich fruity finish. Ruby port is a traditional style of port and Fonseca have been shipping Ruby since the company was founded over 150 years ago. Fonseca Ruby is bottled for immediate drinking. It is an excellent desaert wine, particularly with ripe, blue cheeses. It should be served at room temperature.

1 x White 5cl

Rich, fragrant nose with aromas of mellow fruit and hints of honey and oak. Full body, velvety palate and long flavoursome finish. Fonseca White is traditionally served chilled as an aperitif. It can also be drunk - poured over ice in a glass, topped up with tonic and a leaf of fresh mint. Accompanied by salted almonds or olives, it is an excellent aperitif. Fonseca White Port is a blend of wines produced from white grapes grown mainly on the Upper slopes of the Douro Valley.  The grapes used include the Arinto, Boal (Semillon), Codega, Esgana Cão, Folgasão, Gouveio, Viosinho and Rabigato varieties.  Fonseca White Port is ready to drink immediately and does not need to be decanted.  It should be served at room temperature or slightly cooler. It is a versatile port which may be served either as an aperitif or as a sweet dessert wine.

1 x Bin 27 5cl

Deep youthful  ruby colour. Intense rich fruity nose crammed with pure blackberry, cassis, cherry and plum aromas interwoven with notes of spice. The palate is full bodied and round, with a smooth velvety texture balanced by firm mouth filling tannins.  The juicy black fruit flavours linger into the rich luscious finish.  Bottled when ready to drink, this port can be served by the glass directly from the bottle.  Bin 27 is excellent served after a meal with bitter chocolate with a high cocoa content or a plate of chocolate brownies or truffles.  Like all youthful red Ports, Bin 27 is an excellent match for soft ripe cheeses and can be served on its own at the end of the meal or any other relaxed occasion in a generously proportioned wine glass.

1 x Siroco 5cl

Pale, straw colour. A superb balance of ripe fruit, delicate acidity and elegant notes of wood aging. Full and fruity on the palate this wine has a glorious lingering finish and an attractive, refreshing crispness. In most countries, Ports is traditionally enjoyed at the end of the meal.  The exception is white Port, especially the drier style which makes an excellent aperitif.  It is a blend of classic white Port grape varieties, predominantly Malvasia Fina with smaller proportions of Gouveio, Viosinho, Rabigato and  Arinto, grown on the cooler, higher vineyards of the Douro Valley.  To achieve its crisp dry finish, the wine is allowed to ferment for longer than other styles of Port before it is fortified. Ageing in small oak vats gives Siroco its smoothness as well as its attractive ripe fruit flavours and delicate nuttiness.  Fonseca Siroco is traditionally enjoyed as an aperitif, served chilled in a white wine glass. It can also be poured over ice in a high ball glass and topped up with tonic water and a leaf of fresh mint or a slice of lemon as a refreshing summer long drink. Accompanied by salted almonds and some plump, juicy olives, it is the perfect aperitif.

Fonseca belongs in the first league of vintage port houses. Few port producers have maintained such consistency of quality and style from vintage to vintage.  Fonseca’s three quintas, or vineyard estates, are at the heart of the house’s distinctive house style.

The two Pinhão Valley estates of Quinta do Cruzeiro and Quinta de Santo António, have supplied Fonseca for over a hundred years.   Quinta do Panascal in the Távora Valley has a more recent association with Fonseca, but its wines perfectly complement those of the two Pinhão Valley properties as well as producing an exceptional single-quinta Vintage Port made exclusively from grapes grown on the estate.

The unique terroir of each quinta contributes its own distinctive character to the Fonseca Vintage Port blend.  Cruzeiro provides the dense core of black fruit and tannin. This is enveloped in the rich succulent jammy flavours and velvety texture of the wines of Panascal and overlaid by the exotic heady scents of Santo António. The fusion of the wines of these three diverse properties explains the multi-layered and multi-dimensional quality of Fonseca Vintage Ports and their ability to continue releasing surges of opulent complex aroma over decades of ageing in bottle.

Fonseca's estates have also witnessed pioneering developments in organic and sustainable viticulture in the Douro Valley.   Quinta do Panascal was one of the first properties in the valley to contain areas of vineyard with organic certification.  Quinta de Santo António has been completely converted to the prize-winning sustainable vineyard model developed by the firm's viticulture team and is certified for organic production of both grapes and olive oil.
