The Statue de Femme is a graceful monument built in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the arrival of the French Huguenots in the Cape and stands surrounded by a beautiful rose garden. It displays simplicity and elegance with unmistakable reflections of historic French influences, just like this Sauvignon Blanc.

Expressive tropical aromas tinged with capsicum opening up to attractive Cape gooseberry, grapefruit and pineapple fruit flavours balanced by a lively acidity that follows through to a fresh finish of pleasing length.

The Franschhoek Cellar is situated at the gateway to Franschhoek a romantic village known for its French Huguenot heritage - in one of the most scenic wine valleys in the world.

The wine estate was built in 1920 by the legendary John Winshaw, founder of Stellenbosch Farmers Winery, but became the property of the Castle Wine and Brandy Company in 1930 when Winshaws winemaking business faltered in the great depression.

In 1945, a group of local farmers of the Franschhoek Co-op Wine Cellar started selling their wines under the brands of Franschhoek Cellar, Franschhoek Vineyards, and La Cotte. When construction of the winery completed in 1947, the co-operative cellar eventually bought the derelict Castle Wine and Brandy Company building as a storage facility, transforming it into a tasting venue and eatery in 1985.

In 1995, the co-op became Franschhoek Cellars, an independent company with 32 shareholders, and was purchased by DGB in 2008.

The Vineyards for this wine vary in age from 6 to 25 years and produce well balanced grapes that express all the hallmarks of that typically elegant Franschhoek Cellar style with good varietal character and fine acidity. The great quality grapes are picked by hand in January and February and the wine is made in a reductive style excluding exposure to oxygen at all stages to diminish any loss of inherent grape aromas and flavours with gentle prolonged cold fermentation in stainless steel to ensure expressive fruit aromas. Lees contact encourages richness and complexity on the palate.
