A special release of this limited edition wonderful miniature Port Gift set, presented in a wooden box. Contains 1 x 5cl of each of the following: (Chip Dry, Select Reserve, 10yo Tawny and LBV)

1 x Chip Dry 5cl

Pale, straw colour. Delicate nose combining fresh fruit fragrances with the mellow aromas and hints of oak of a traditional white port. Fresh, lively palate, with good flavour and crisp, dry finish.   Chip Dry White Port is a stylish and sophisticated aperitif, the perfect introduction to a relaxed meal. It is best served chilled in a large Port glass and accompanied by marinated olives or roasted almonds.   Chip Dry can also be used to make a refreshing and original summer drink by mixing one part of Chip Dry white Port with two parts of chilled Tonic water in a tall glass, adding a sprig of mint or a twist of lemon.

1 x Select Reserve 5cl

Blended from carefully selected young red wines produced in the Baixo Corgo and Cima Corgo areas of the upper Douro Valley, chosen for their depth of colour, intense fruit and full, firm palate. These Port wines are matured for about two years in oak vats, where they soften and develop without losing their fresh, intense fruity character and their deep ruby colour. Taylor’s Select Reserve is bottled for immediate drinking. An excellent accompaniment for rich cheeses, dried fruit, and desserts made of chocolate or black fruit.

1 x 10yo Tawny 5cl

Taylor's 10 Year Old Tawny Port is a deep brick colour with amber rim. Rich and elegant nose combining aromas of ripe berry fruit with a delicate nuttiness and subtle mellow notes of chocolate, butterscotch and fine oak wood. Smooth and silky on the palate and full of ripe figgy, jammy flavours which persist on the long finish. Taylor’s 10 Year Old makes a delicious dessert wine, and combines particularly well with flavours of almonds, berry fruit or dark chocolate. It can also be enjoyed as an accompaniment for rich, blue veined cheeses. It is excellent at the end of the meal, as a crowning moment of an enjoyable evening, served on its own or with a plate of walnuts or roasted almonds. They benefit from being served slightly chilled, particularly in warm weather.

1 x LBV 5cl

Deep ruby red colour, black morello cherry on the nose, great vibrancy and wonderful freshness of fruit. On the palate, cassis, plums and blackberry combine harmoniously with the well-integrated and tightly knit tannins. Long elegant finish.  Taylor’s LBV is the perfect finish to any meal. It does not need to be decanted and should be served in a generously proportioned wine glass so that its rich fruity nose can be enjoyed to the full.  Excellent with fully flavoured cheeses, especially blue cheeses such as Stilton or Roquefort. It is also delicious with desserts made with chocolate or berry fruits.

The wines used to blend Taylor’s LBV were drawn from a reserve of some of the best full bodied red ports, produced at the harvest, from grapes grown on Taylor’s own vineyards and on other top properties in the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior areas.

Once they are picked, the grapes are taken to the winery. On the Taylor estates they are carried in small trays to ensure that they are kept in perfect condition. On arrival in the winery they are evaluated by the wine maker and inspected on a sorting table before being de-stemmed. In the traditional process, still used to make the wines from Taylor’s own estates, the grapes are then placed in wide, thigh-deep granite treading tanks known as lagares. Here they are trodden by foot.

Probably the best known of all Port houses, the firm known today as Taylor’s was founded by Job Bearsley who was a general trader. It was Job’s son Peter who moved the company to Oporto in 1709 and they were the first English family to purchase property in the Douro in 1744. In 1816 Joseph Taylor joined the firm and it was soon trading under his name, 1836 saw the arrival of John Fladgate and Morgan Yeatman.  Descendants of these three families have run the firm ever since, and it remains committed to staying independently owned.

David Guimaraens is the wine-maker here, producing ‘first growth’ Vintage Port. Taylor’s were the first to plant single variety vineyards at Quinta de Vargellas. The house remains entirely focused on Port production and specialised in its premium styles.   Read more here: www.taylor.pt

This guarantees the continuity of purpose required to make wines of quality and character. It also preserves a priceless inheritance of experience and skill passed down through the generations over more than three centuries. Taylor’s independence also helps to protect its future as a producer of the finest Ports, allowing it to make decisions and investments which are in the best long term interests of the firm and of future generations.
