An excellent gift set produced by Glenfarclas containing a 70cl bottle of Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength and two miniatures of Glenfarclas 15 year old and 21 year old!

In 1968 George S Grant decided to cask of Glenfarclas at natural strength as a Christmas gift for family and friends. The strength of that single cask was 105 British proof - so Glenfarclas 105 was born. The distillery still select some of the finest casks from their warehouses and vat them together - without adding water - to give a constant strength of 60%. And today, Glenfarclas 105, the world's first commercially available cask strength whisky, is just as smooth as ever.

Glenfarclas 105 is dry and assertive, with a rich spiciness that combines with hints of oak and sherried fruit to create a perfect warming dram. In short, all the great flavours of Glenfarclas in one glass.

The 15 Year Old is a Grant family favourite, bottled at 46% due to the family preferring the strength in this 15 Year Old whisky. The colour is that of rich golden amber and is a great complex whisky. The nose of this whisky is complex with a range of aromas such as butterscotch, cinnamon and honey. The flavour is full bodied and a balance of sherried sweetness, malty tones and peaty flavour with a gentle smoky finish.

Glenfarclas 21 Year Old has a dark amber-gold colour. An intense nose, full of aromas - sherried fruit, tropical fruit, nutmeg and almonds with slight citrus notes at the end, all kept together with a vanilla sweet smokiness. A full bodied rich and rounded flavour develops slowly into fruity, smoky and spicy flavours. A long-lasting, smooth smoky finish with a chocolate feel at the back of your throat.

The year 2011 marked the 175th anniversary of licensed distilling at Glenfarclas. The distillery was purchased by a John Grant in 1856 as an adjunct to a farm (Glenfarclas means glen of the green grassland) and continues in family ownership under the direction of John L. S. Grant (Chairman and 5th generation) and his son George (Director of Sales and 6th generation).

The spring water which ensured the plentiful green grass proved to be one of the essential components contributing to the distinct flavour of Glenfarclas highland Single Malt Whisky. Crystal clear, it bubbles up from the underlying granite on the slopes of the Speyside mountain, Ben Rinnes, to supply the distillery below. here it combines with the finest malted barley to provide a mash which is then twice distilled in traditional, direct fired, copper pot stills – the largest in Speyside. Only the lightest and best fractions of alcohol are collected and it has been said that “it is the whisky they don’t use that makes Glenfarclas great”.
