The latest addition to Maison Gosset and the first Blanc de Noirs in the house’s history. Initially created as an experiment, Grand Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut NV is based on the 2007 vintage, created by Chef de Cave Odilon de Varine’s using some of his favourite crus. The blend includes the Grand Crus of Ambonnay, Aÿ, Verzy and Premier Crus of Chigny les Roses, Tauxières, Avenay and aged for nine years on lees before disgorgement.

This cuvée exhibits a nose of white fruit, hints of patisserie, along with a touch of white peach and baked apple. The palate is supple and balanced revealing notes of honey, beeswax and citrus, followed by a fresh, lively finish. 

This prestigious cuvée will be served with a goat's cheese such as Valençay, just roasted langoustines with sweet spices coated with sesame seeds, or more exotic, with a chicken of Bresse lacquered with Chinese.

One of the region's most legendary and revered Champagnes; Gosset's original Charter of Excellence has remained the same since the 1500's, with different owners seeing no need to amend it. In 1584 Pierre Gosset, alderman of Ay and wine-grower, made still wines from the grapes he harvested from his own vines. The reputation of the wine of Ay was such that François the First had his own winery built there, which is now owned by Champagne Gosset. Then, in the 18th century the wine made in and around Ay began to bubble, and the Gosset family turned naturally to the production of champagne.

For four centuries, great care has been taken to maintain the reputation of the brand, and to preserve a family know-how in making champagne. Gosset insist on only using the juice from the first pressing of their grapes and primary fermentation takes place in small oak barrels. Disgorgement and riddling are still done manually. Gosset set themselves apart from the majority of other Champagne houses by disallowing any malolactic fermentation to take place. This results in a higher acidity in the Champagne and a much slower maturing rate. When producing their Grand Rosé, Gosset add only the finest Reserve wines from their cellars.

In 1994 the house was sold to the family owned Renaud-Cointreau Group after the death of Albert Gosset, also owners of Cognac Frapin. This allowed a new level of investment to improve their vineyard management and production in the winery. However, the Cointreaus hold strong the belief that Gosset is a family run business and maintain the hands on approach that was started by the original Gosset family. The Gosset cuvees are still presented in the antique flask style identical to the one used since the 18th century and are typically very creamy, dry but not acidic, full, biscuity and yeasty. All the cuvees have good bottle age. The champagnes are excellent by themselves or with food.
