The Islay representative in the 'Classic Malts' series is a deep, dry and exceptionally peaty whisky. This IWSC 2015 Silver Outstanding Medal Winner is one of the smokiest and most intense whiskies in the world; a benchmark Islay dram.

On the nose, this full bodied Single Malt has intensely flavoured, peat smoke with iodine and seaweed and a rich, deep sweetness. The palate has dry peat smoke that fills the palate with a gentle but strong sweetness, followed by sea and salt with touches of wood. It has a long, elegant peat-filled finish with lots of salt and seaweed.

Revered by connoisseurs and experts, Lagavulin is known as “the king of Islay”. This is a much sought-after single malt aged in oak casks for at least sixteen years, with the massive peat-smoke that's typical of southern Islay but also offering richness and a dryness that turns it into a truly interesting dram. Probably the most pungent of all Islay malts, the biggest, richest, and most intensely flavoured, Lagavulin is not for the faint-hearted but inspires fanatical devotion in its many followers.

A perfect gift for lovers of peaty and powerful whiskies, it is an 'essential' Scotch Whisky that any connoisseur or enthusiast must have in their collection; one of the world's favourite Malt Whiskies.

Country Of Origin: Scotland

Lagavulin is said to be one of the oldest distilleries on Islay, consisting originally of 10 small illicit distilleries.

There have been distilleries at Lagavulin since the 18th century; though it wasn't until 1816 that farmer John Johnston founded the first legal operation. A year later a second distillery appeared, this one run by Archibald Campbell. The two were united under a Glasgow trader, and in 1887, Peter Mackie arrived at the distillery, under whose guiding hand the distillery, and the name Lagavulin, was to become the last word in Islay malt.

As one of Scotland's most famous whiskies, Lagavulin embodies the flavours of the island on which it sits with its rich fruit and smooth smoky flavours complimented by a good dose of Islay peat and crisp sea salt.

Widely known as the Queen of the Hebrides, Islay has everything you could possibly ask for from a small Scottish island. The landscape and scenery changes dramatically as you journey round the island from the long sand shores of Machir bay to the rugged cliffs of the Oa, the island has plenty of spectacular views and walks to offer those keen on the outdoors. Islay is also home to some of the rarest and most charismatic wildlife in the UK from the hairy highland cows to the soaring sea eagles there is plenty to see.

Peated malt, slow distillation and long maturation together ensure Lagavulin develops a complex, rich, peaty character. Lagavulin is a spirit which likes to take its time.
