Albario Mar de Frades is considered to be one of the most respected white wines in Europe. This is a young wine with an Atlantic soul, taken from a single variety of grapes. Result from the first wine press is a gold colour with fine greenish tints, clear, fresh and fruity, with a quite different taste with floral aromas, superb citrus freshness on the palate and an intense bouquet of low acidity. It is bottled in blue glass, in honour of the ocean that embraces the vineyards which causes this wine to combine with seafood harmoniously.
Country Of Origin: Spain
A pioneering bodega and representing the most deeply-rooted tradition in the Valley of Salns, the historical capital of Albario. It was here that the legend of the varieties of Albario wine started, and where without a shadow of a doubt, the most sophisticated and suggestive white wines of Spain are produced: characterised by freshness and aromatic intensity. The breeze received from Valley of Salns, the historical capital of Albario, provides Mar de Frades with the saline character. Mar de Frades means "Sea of Friars", the name given to a spot in the Arousa Estuary where the pilgrims used to disembark from their maritime journey on their way to Santiago de Compostela. The Blue Rhin bottle represents the colour from the ocean that lies in front of the Vineyards, their very soul linked to the Atlantic Ocean. A blue vessel that appears on the label indicates the right drinking temperature. This represents the way of transportation for the pilgrims. Hand-picked grapes arrive on the sorting table in small crates and any imperfect bunches are separated. In this way, high quality is obtainable even in difficult years. The selected grapes are macerated for 10 - 20 hours - depending on the quality - to produce very clean, aromatic musts with great potential. Fermentation is slow and controlled, and the acidity transferred to the wine gives it a special liveliness, reminiscent of the best vintages from the last decade.
