Style Rich and Fruity

Sandeman Porto Vau Vintage 1999 is a Vintage Porto of exceptional quality and modern style that may be enjoyed while still young or after ageing. It has an immensely intense bouquet and a fruity palate reminiscent of plums and red fruit. Sandeman Porto Vau Vintage 1999 is the perfect partner for chocolate desserts and should be served in a large glass.

Sandeman Porto Vau Vintage 1999 has a deep, almost opaque, red hue. It has a truly intense and complex bouquet with a prevalence of red fruits such as strawberry. In the mouth, rich plummy flavours with hints of strawberry are supported by soft tannins which give a firm backbone and will allow it to age over several years.

If aged for more than 5 years, Sandeman Porto Vau Vintage 1999 may require decanting. For that purpose the bottle should be kept upright for at least 24 hours and the cork carefully extracted. The clear wine should then slowly be poured into a decanter without letting the sediment through. Serve between 16C-18C. Once open, Sandeman Porto Vau Vintage 1999 should be enjoyed within 2 to 3 days.

Country Of Origin: Portugal

Long associated with quality, tradition and superiority in the wine world,  The House of Sandeman was founded in 1790 and was the first to brand its barrels. The name was trademarked in 1877 making it one of the oldest brands in the world.

Sandeman was one of the first luxury brands to advertise.  Famous for its ‘Sandeman Don’ image – the black cloak and sombrero, in 1921, their luminous ad board was put up in Piccadilly Circus and caused somewhat of a stir.  Sandeman’s rich history and knowledge passed from generation to generation, enabling the brand to grow from strength to strength and in 1965, they began advertising on TV. Today 18 bottles are sold across the world every single minute!

Founder George Sandeman set up his original wine business with just £300 borrowed from his father. In 2002, The House of Sandeman joined corporate holding Sogrape Vinhos in Portugal and is now represented by seventh generation George Sandeman. The original cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia still exist today where 2000 casks continue to age.

The grapes, hand-picked with optimal maturation, were vinified following Porto Wine's traditional method. Fermentation took place in robotic lagars and stainless steel vats, with skin maceration under controlled temperature. It was halted through the addition of wine alcohol at the ideal point for each vine variety. These exceptional wines chosen to make up the final blend of the Sandeman Porto Vau Vintage 1999 were taken to the lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia where, after two years, the final blend was bottled with no prior treatment, in black glass sealed with a long natural cork closure for prolonged ageing.
