Tamdhu 10 Year Old is the distillery’s signature malt and the first release in their slowly maturing range of exquisite whiskies. On the nose, enjoy a softness of vanilla and sugared almonds, balanced by fresh oak and cinnamon.  The palate bursts with fruit and spice - gently revealing toffee and the richness of sherry oak, the taste finishes with a touch of fresh fruit, becoming pleasantly drying - slowly unveiling the wisp of peat smoke.

Not many whiskies can hold a candle to this new limited edition, as the Tamdhu 10 Year Old Lantern Tins have now been released. The beautiful lantern display tin harks back to Tamdhu’s Victorian roots, when the first sherry oak casks were filled back in 1897. The lantern design perfectly presents the unique shape of the Tamdhu bottle, while the golden glow of the whisky shines from within. And of course, the tin is not just for presentation purposes. Remove your precious bottle from the lantern and replace with a candle*, allowing you to enjoy a warming dram by candlelight, just as the very first Tamdhu drinkers would have done. We like to think of it as whisky with added ambience.

It truly is the finest gift to light up a whisky lover’s Christmas.

*Not suitable for a naked flame candle. Please use a battery operated tealight.

Enthused by the optimism of 1897's Diamond Jubilee, a consortium of merchants and gentlemen of the whisky trade were driven to produce the finest whisky in the world, and in so doing, they set out to construct the most advanced distillery yet devised.

Having first acquired a unique site on the banks of the River Spey, they enlisted the ingenuity of Charles C Doig Esq - the pre-eminent distillery architect and engineer of the day. Doig insisted upon employing only the most advanced techniques of whisky production, delivering unrivalled consistency and quality. This ensured every drop was as magnificent as the one before.

What Doig designed and built was nothing less than the most pioneering distillery of the age. A water wheel positioned beneath the floor for optimum performance, kilns redesigned to reduce heat loss and waste extracted by Archimedean Screw, direct to the distillery's own railway station. Few names other than Tamdhu so embody the 'Can-Dhu-Spirit' of our grand Industrial Age.

Tamdhu lived on through the ups and downs of the 20th Century on the banks of the River Spey, until it was closed in 2010.

Inspired by the founders' vision, the distillery was then purchased in 2011 by Ian Macleod Distillers - a family company independent in thought and ownership.

Re-commissioned in 2012, the new owners set out to return this eminent malt to its former glory.

Tamdhu's quality is defined by the exclusive use of only the finest sherry oak casks, of the same type insisted upon when the distillery was established in 1897. Also by the hint of peat in its malted barley as well as the distillery's location on the banks of the River Spey: its water is drawn directly from the Tamdhu spring.

Matured exclusively in sherry oak casks, the finest in the whisky industry, every drop of Tamdhu is as magnificent now as the founders envisioned over a century ago. The casks are either first or second fill, European or Americ
