A delight for any Port lover, this beautifully crafted wooden box houses three wines from the 2015 Single Quinta vintages from the houses of Fonseca, Taylor's and Croft. These are vintages declared in years where a “classic” house vintage is not declared.

Taylors Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port 2015

Core black red with a thin purple halo. On the nose it presents itself as a classic Vargellas, balanced and elegant, with pure aromas of forest fruits and fresh plums, with a touch of citrus and quince. Subtle notes of spice - nutmeg, anise and cocoa - stand out through the fruit. To the typical floral character of Vargellas, reminding more jasmine than the characteristic aura of violets, are associated resinous notes and mentoladas of wild herbs. A discreet minerality gives it a firm finish. The palate reveals tight, muscled tannins and ends in an explosion of flavours to fresh berries. An elegant Vintage Single Quinta, secure and perfectly balanced.

Fonseca Guimaraens 2015 Vintage Port

A classic Fonseca nose redolent of heady, woodland fruit, powerful but also very fine and complex. The dense blackberry and blackcurrant aromas form the backdrop for a display of fresh, minty, balsamic scents along with notes of the Gum Cistus and wild herbs native to the area. Discreet hints of exotic wood, liquorice and black pepper provide an additional dimension of complexity. The thick, tightly-woven tannins provide both firmness and volume to the palate and the aromas follow through too. Plummy, raspberry flavours emerge on the long, luscious finish, giving it an attractive crispness and lift. Fonseca’s 200th anniversary year has produced an exceptional Guimaraens Vintage Port, expressive and approachable but with the stamina to improve over many years in the cellar.

Croft Quinta da Roeda Vintage Port 2015

Intense purple-black centre surrounded by a vivid magenta rim. A typical Quinta da Roêda Vintage Port nose made up of a rich plump dark berry compote infused with exotic notes of ripe tropical fruit and the subtle pungency of wild herbs. Warm notes of liquorice, dark chocolate and spice contribute to the wine's opulent character. The palate is smooth, round and full of rich, jammy flavour. The wine's silky texture conceals the firm, well-knit tannins which emerge on the finish to provide an attractive firmness and grip. Characteristically of the 2015 Vintage Ports, the wine is immediately appealing but will continue to gain in elegance and refinement over the next three decades.

Country Of Origin: Portugal

Probably the best known of all Port houses, the firm known today as Taylor’s was founded by Job Bearsley who was a general trader. It was Job’s son Peter who moved the company to Oporto in 1709 and they were the first English family to purchase property in the Douro in 1744.

In 1816 Joseph Taylor joined the firm and it was soon trading under his name, 1836 saw the arrival of John Fladgate and Morgan Yeatman. Descendants of these three families have run the firm ever since, and it remains committed to staying independently owned.

David Guimaraens is the wine-maker here, producing ‘first growth’ Vintage Port. Taylor’s were the first to plant single variety vineyards at Quinta de Vargellas. The house remains entirely focused on Port production and specialised in its premium styles.
