Terrazas de los Andes Single Vineyard Las Compuertas Malbec is Terrazas flagship Malbec. The grapes for this wine are from the Las Compuertas vineyard located Lujan de Cuyo in the Mendoza wine-growing region. The vineyard is situated 1067 metres above sea level (3200 ft) and the vines are ungrafted stock planted in 1929. The grapes for this wine are hand-harvested and undergo cluster and berry selection followed by gravity feeding into the fermentation tanks. The wine undergoes alcoholic fermentation with a soft maceration for 30 days combined with pigeage and delestage. The wine is aged in new French oak barrels for 18 to 20 months with minimum of 12 bottles in bottle prior to release.

Intense purple colour with violet shades with an amazing nose combining intensity with precision. Ripe fruit and sweet character of blackberry, plum, red fruit marmalade. It rounds off with elegant notes of pepper, bay and cinnamon.

Set in unique landscapes, producing unique grape varieties, Terrazas de los Andes is the number one landowner in Vistalba, considered to be the world's best Malbec district. The “Terrazas” in the name comes from the high-altitude growing areas, or terraces, at the foot of the Andes where the winery is located. Formed in 1999 by Moët & Chandon subsidiary Bodegas Chandon, Terrazas de los Andes is a pioneer in altitude wine making.

In the year 1992, Chandon Argentina, founded by Moët &Chandon in 1960, undertook Terrazas de los Andes project. After many years searching and exploring for new lands, Chandon discovered and identified the best terroirs and the precise altitude definition for each grape variety.

In 1999, Terrazas de los Andes was founded right at Mendoza’s heart in an old and restored Spanish-style winery that had belonged from 1898 to Sotero Arizu, one of the forefathers of winemaking in Argentina. At Terrazas de los Andes, it all begins in the vineyards located in terraces at the foothill of the Andes Range. As pioneers in the election of the exact height to express the legitimate character for each genuine grape variety, our philosophy has always been to identify the best terroirs for varietals Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Torrontés and Chardonnay.

This is why Argentine tradition and French technical savoir-faire, combined with an exceptional terroir, allows Terrazas de los Andes team to obtain the intensity and genuine characteristics of each variety making Terrazas de los Andes wines stand out by its freshness, intensity and elegance. Terrazas de los Andes is considered as one of the best producers of Argentina, and thus received the honor of being chosen by Château Cheval Blanc (Premier Grand Cru Classè A based in Saint-Emilion) for its first joint-venture in order to create a unique icon wine: Cheval des Andes.
