Style Full Bodied, Rich and Smooth

A classic favourite - now available in this impressive Jeroboam format.  A complex, rich and exciting blend of Syrah, Cinsault, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon with just a hint of Viognier gives this wine an opulent style with super-fine tannins and a luscious palate giving out distinctly chocolately notes.

The wine being Syrah led (and as the name suggests) shows a beautiful richness of Mocha, chocolate and blackberries along with a fresh spiced black pepper. An earthy, rustic nose gives up aromas of leather, earth and spices over a backdrop of blackcurrant and ripe raspberry fruit. Harmonious and powerful on the palate, with a cocoa and pepper complexity. Textured, composed and seamless in style.

Smooth and luxurious, this wine is ready to drink, although will benefit from some ageing also. The grapes come from several specially selected blocks of vines on Boukenhoutskloof's estate, fermented and aged for up to 18 months in old French oak. Made in very limited quantities, this is a fantastic wine and what better way to enjoy it than from this superb Jeroboam!

The Chocolate Block is a delicious and intricate blend of 5 traditionally French grapes from innovative winemaker Marc Kent. The Chocolate Block is dominated by Syrah, blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache Noir, Cinsault and Viognier which produce a wonderfully smooth wine with good fruit and dark chocolate flavours. This wine is the perfect example of identifying undiscovered parcels of vineyard with amazing potential and utilizing it to unleash its world class quality. The Syrah and Viognier fruit come from Malmesbury (Swartland) with its unique growing conditions and dryland farmed vineyards to ensure it deep-rooted vines and therefore optimal concentration of colour, flavour and tannin structure. The Grenache Noir is sourced from Piekenierskloof (Citrusdal) with its very sandy soils and perfect terroir for ripening this grape varietal. The Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from Franschhoek and the Cinsault is from old bushvines in the Swartland and Piekenierskloof. The wine matures in 1st (all of the Cabernet Sauvignon), 2nd and 3rd filled French oak barrels for 18 months before it gets a light egg-white fining and filtration. The Chocolate Block is one of Boekenhoutskloof's most successful wines.
