Beautifully perfumed, this Pinot Noir is bursting with bright red fruit and wild herb aromas complimented by some exotic oak spice. Flavours of ripe red cherry and raspberry are complemented by fine, silky tannins and a long savoury structure. Subtle hints of chocolate and spice on the finish complete a wine of charm and distinction.

This Pinot Noir has been sourced from the Ben Morven vineyard in Marlborough's Southern Valleys, known for their deep clay and loam soils. Hand-picked and aged for 9 months in French oak, this is a classic, rounded Marlborough Pinot. With a subtle smoky character and rounded red berry fruit aromas, on the palate this wine is warming and rich, encompassing every corner of the mouth and leaving a long and smooth finish. This wine will develop more smoky character if aged.

Country Of Origin: New Zealand
Brent Marris, Marlborough born and raised, spent years as a youngster exploring the landscape of his home region. He put that exploration to good use when, in 2003, he started his search for a vineyard property. The site he chose was 268ha of vineyards on the banks of the Waihopai River, on the southern side of the Wairau Valley. He knew immediately it had enormous potential. Tucked between the Delta Hills and the Waihopai River, the property flows over three distinct terraces of clays and ancient river shingles, providing the fruit variation and complexity that a winemaker can normally only dream of from a single vineyard site. From here, Brent started Marisco Vineyards and achieved international success with his wines, most notably with his flagship brand “The Ned”.

Named after the summit of Marlborough at 909 metres above sea level, The Ned is an abiding symbol of “The Summit of Marlborough.”

The Karearea is the only falcon found in New Zealand and is a threatened species. Ned have a breeding pair, resident at the property, named Maggie and Astin. They take great delight in scaring away other birds thereby reducing the need for man-made pest control.
